Vinnytsia – (from the Old Slav word "vѣno" – gift) is the administrative center of the region, located on the banks of the Pivdennyy Bug River in the eastern part of Podillia of Right-Bank Ukraine. The first mention of the city dates back to the 9th century, when the tribes of the Tivertsy and Uliches settled here. Artifacts of the Scythian and Slavic tribes were also found on the territory of the modern city. Since its foundation, Vinnytsia has acquired a rich historical heritage, which cannot but reflect on the modern appearance and versatility of the city's culture.

Climate in Vinnitsya, Ukraine

The climate in Vinnytsia is moderately continental. The city is characterized with warm, humid summers, dry autumns, winters with moderate frosts and snow cover, and warm sunny springs. Air masses from the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Arctic have significant impact on the formation of weather conditions here. This fact determines the onset of a long, cool summer with the sufficient amount of moisture and a mild short winter, change of seasons being quite smooth. However, there can be snowstorms and fogs in winter, while thunderstorms and hail do occur in summer. During summers western and north-western winds prevail in the city.

The average annual precipitation in Vinnytsia is about 590 mm, with the maximum precipitation occurring in May-July. Due to the close location of the rivers in the spring and autumn months, there are fogs in the city, and in summer there is often strong dew. The average air temperature in July reaches +19.2 °C, and in January it drops to -4.1 °C.

Summer lasts from the second half of May to the first decade of September. Most of the rains fall during this period.

Festivals in Vinnitsya

Vinnytsia is also considered to be the center of music festivals. Since 1995 the International Days of Jazz Music in Vinnytsia, since 2000 the MuseEntropy charity rock fest have been held here, and the International Music Festival of Classical Music named after P.I. Tchaikovsky and Karl Otto Georg von Meck, as well as Music in the monastery walls, the autumn international festival of organ music taking place in the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Angels.

The embankment and the "Roshen" floating music and light fountain

The embankment and the Roshen floating music and light fountain is the unique open-air entertainment complex near Kempa Island, accessible to everyone. After the major reconstruction of the embankment and the launch of a high-tech singing fountain in 2011, the left-bank part of the Pivdennyy Bug in Vinnytsia came to life and sparkled with new colors. The project was implemented with investments from the Petro Poroshenko Foundation and the ROSHEN confectionery corporation. The unique design of the fountain on a floating platform with a length of 97 m was even registered in the ship register as a docking vessel. Laser projectors allow to demonstrate grandiose European-level 3D shows. The fountain and the embankment form a single ensemble, which is definitely worth seeing with your own eyes.

The Military History Museum of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The impressive open-air exposition of aviation equipment and air defense systems will be interesting not only for adults, but also for young fans of winged aircraft. Over 40 exhibits of military equipment, including supersonic fighters and bombers, vertical takeoff and landing attack aircraft, helicopters, reconnaissance drones, aircraft missiles and bombs, anti-aircraft guns and even a ballistic missile, radar stations are assembled on the territory of the former headquarters of the Air Force High Command Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Historic Memorial Complex to Victims of Nazi Regime in Vinnitsya

Within 8 kilometers north of Vinnitsa in the village Strizhavka there is the true point of strategic importance of the past, the Hitler's Headquarters Werewolf, the Historic Memorial Complex to Victims of Nazi Regime. It was here that Adolf Hitler spent most of his time, leading military operations on the Eastern Front. The mysterious and terrifying place vividly reminds of the fateful deeds of the dictator of the 20th century.

Complex of religious and fortification constructions of 17th-18th century (Vinnitski Mury)

Complex of religious and fortification constructions dated 17th-18th centuries (Vinnytski Mury) – a complex of temple and defense structures in the center of Vinnytsia, dating back to the 17th century. It includes the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Jesuit monastery, surrounded by majestic walls with loopholes towers. This is the only fortification in the city that has survived to this day.

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an Orthodox church built in 1732. This is one of the largest temples in the city. Originally wooden, the cathedral was reconstructed and painted again in the 1970s. Here is a valuable relic of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God, as well as the relics of St. Panteleymon, George the Victorious.

House-Museum of M.M. Kotsyubinsky

House-Museum of M.M. Kotsyubinsky in Ivana Bevza street is the house built by Mykhaylo Kotsyubinsky's grandfather. The great classic of Ukrainian literature was born here. Today the literary and memorial museum tells about the creative and life path of the writer, receiving over 30,000 visitors annually.

The Grokholsky estate

The Grokholsky estate is a late 18th century palace built in the early classicism style. The former manor of the Polish Count Michal Grokholsky, surrounded by the ruins of a pavilion, towers and loopholes, is located in the landscape park of the Vinnytsia region of Pyatnichany.

The Vinnytsia Museum of the Local History is the museum of regional significance, striking not only with unique exhibits, but also with a graceful architectural ensemble. It presently occupies the building which is the part of the Vinnytski Mury monument. Over 100,000 exhibits tell the story of the eastern region of Podillya.
